This past week I discovered a really cool term for a crappy feeling I felt after a meeting. I think most of us feel this too…

The literal translation for “the spirit of the stairway”, refers to that moment when we think of the perfect response to a comment in an earlier discussion. Sadly, this realization often occurs as we’re descending the stairs or on our way out, when its too late to be of actual use.

In French, Spirit of the Stairway is called L’esprit de l’escalier.

The phrase also comes from the comic book, ‘Death: The High Cost of Living’. Death, is the sister of the Sandman

Do you know where the term “bug” in software development comes from?

Back in the 1940’s someone was working on a computer and it stopped working. When they investigated, they found a moth stuck in it. That’s where the term “bug” first originated from.

A bit more detail is written in National Geographic.

( Talking of moths… I’ll tell you the joke about the moth another day! It’s the perfect antidote for those awkward silences in remote meetings 🤪)
